Introduction to Community Development – Twilight Session
Monday, 10th of March, 4.30 – 6pm, online using Zoom

The Scottish Community Development Centre (SCDC) will be providing a further twilight introductory learning session for volunteers, new practitioners and anyone who wishes to learn more about Community Development in practice. Priority will be give to those who have signed up for the previous sessions.

This session is for people working with communities, who may be volunteers or paid staff, working in settings including community development, youth work, adult education, community engagement and participation, regeneration, community roles. 

It is aimed at people who have been working with communities and who are looking for a better understanding of community development as a way of working, and for those who have been working in the field for a while and would appreciate a refresher and/or a chance to revisit the core principles.  

In this training we will explore: 

  • The underpinning principles, values and ethics of community development and how that sits within the current policy context in Scotland. 

  • The key components of community development practice. 

  • The nature of power within communities, how community development practice differs from other types of community work and how we can apply community development principles to our work. 

The sessions will be participative and interactive, and will give practical tools and techniques to help participants feel more confident in using community development approaches within their role.

We aim to make these sessions accessible, so please let us know in advance if you have any access requirements that are needed to facilitate your participation.
