West Dunbartonshire Community Empowerment Strategy

West Dunbartonshire Council (WDC) is developing a Community Empowerment Strategy and Action Plan. The Strategy and Action Plan is designed to transform the way the Council (and their partners) work with communities. It is aimed at supporting communities to be more resilient and take more control over the issues that matter to them, and it will set out the key things that need to be done in communities and by local services to make this happen. It will also enable implementation of the Community Empowerment Act, which is designed to make it easier for communities to influence how local services are delivered and how to make direct use of resources, like buildings, which Councils and other agencies own.

We have been assisting West Dunbartonshire Council by running a series of informal discussion events in various venues across Clydebank, Dumbarton and Vale to help residents become more involved in their communities.

These events encouraged people to share ideas on what should be done to make it easier to get involved in improving their local community, based on their experiences of working to achieve change locally and as the Community Empowerment Act is implemented.

What people told us so far has helped shape the Council’s draft Community Empowerment Strategy and Action Plan.

We are now running three final consultation events as well as an online survey to get your views and the views of the wider community about what’s in the draft strategy/action plan.

These events will take place:

  • Monday 26th August - Alexandria Community Centre - Main Street, Alexandria G83 0NU

  • Thursday 29th August - Concord Community Centre – Town Centre, Dumbarton G82 1LJ

  • Tuesday 3rd September - Clydebank Townhall - 5 Hall St, Clydebank G81 1UB

You can download the draft strategy and action plan here.

You can complete the survey by following the link here.

Closing date for the survey is Friday 13th September.
