Starting Back Safely - Updated advice and practical tools
/The Supporting Communities Safely resource, developed by Public Health Scotland and SCDC, has been updated to support community organisations to start back safely.
With the immediate impact of the pandemic decreasing, groups will be able to come together again soon. This is fantastic news for communities and the services that support them.
But as we move closer to re-opening, we are morally, practically and legally obliged to take all possible precautions to avoid further infections. The virus still kills people – if we drop our guard it could kill more.
This latest edition of Supporting Communities Safely revisits decision-making processes on assessing and reducing risk and focuses on the nuts and bolts of how to implement these. The resource offers practical advice on how to effectively plan and deliver the measures like physical distancing and proper ventilation, both fundamental to achieve COVID safe services.
Given the technical nature of these issues, we have tried to offer advice as plainly as possible. We also introduce some easy-to-use tools that can help you:
· Accurately calculate the space per person you have to deliver services safely
· Determine what that means for the numbers of people you can work with at any given time
· Where to get help with planning for this including getting help to assess and improve ventilation in your service
Our advice is based on the most accessible scientific opinion we could find, but we know that this is still an evolving picture. We commit to practical updates of Supporting Communities Safely as new insights become available. Part of this requires bringing those providing advice together to explore how we best coordinate messages and create maximum access to practical solutions.
