New toolkit supports capital investment projects to assess health impacts and engage with communities

Launched this week, the Capital Investment Health Impact Assessment (CHIA) is a new online toolkit to help capital investment teams consider how capital projects impact the health and wellbeing of local communities.

The toolkit is designed to support capital investment projects to integrate the principles of an inclusive economy into the case for investment, embedding a focus on health, wellbeing and equity at all key design stages.

SCDC has been supporting a diverse community panel to help co-design this new resource, with the panel investing significant time in developing content for the community engagement section. This section focuses on guidance around wider engagement in capital project development, and encourages users to consider going beyond statutory requirements as part of their community engagement.

The work is part of the of Economies for Healthier Lives Project, facilitated by Glasgow City Region (GCR) and funded by the Health Foundation, with the project aiming to strengthen the relationship between economic development and public health.

The resource will now be piloted by GCR members over the coming months, with partner councils and stakeholders encouraged to sign-up to a new pledge to champion the use of the tool.
