Towards Empowerment

The Community Empowerment (Scotland) Bill  has now been introduced to the Scottish Parliament. 

The Bill provides a framework which aims to empower community bodies through the ownership of land and buildings, strengthen community voices in the decisions that matter to them and improve the process of community planning. 

SCDC has responded to the publication of the Bill with a briefing, Towards Empowerment, examining how far the legislation goes towards empowering communities, and suggesting where improvements might be made.

We will use the briefing as the basis for a submission to the Local Government and Regeneration Committee’s call for evidence on the Bill, and we encourage you to get in touch if you have your own suggestions and to submit your own responses to the consultation, which runs until the 5th September.
