Funding to support new approaches to tackling child poverty

£500,000 has been made available by the Scottish Government for a new round of its Child Poverty Practice Accelerator Fund (CPAF).
The funding provides up to £80,000 for local initiatives that support reducing poverty through improving income, supporting people with the cost of living and increasing awareness and uptake of social security benefits. The first round saw 9 projects funded through the scheme.
The lead applicant for the fund must be a local authority or health board, but this lead applicant can nominate another organisation, such as a registered charity, to deliver the activity.
Eradicating child poverty has been placed as a top priority and the government has set out the activity it’s undertaking, such as this new funding, in a recent progress report.
Earlier this month, the Poverty and Inequality Commission said that "it is unlikely that the interim [poverty] targets will be met" and that "without immediate and significant action, the Scottish Government will not meet the 2030 targets." The Commission also published a series of recommendations for action.
Applications close at 5pm on Friday 12 July 2024.
